The Mauser Karabiner 98 Kurz (commonly abbreviated "Kar98k") was the Wehrmacht's standard issue infantry rifle during World War II. It was introduced in 1935 and incorporates the classic Mauser bolt action design. It holds five rounds of 7.92x57mm ammunition (also known as 8mm Mauser) in an internal magazine fed by a five round stripper clip.
The Karabiner 98k is the carbine version of the Gewehr 98[1]. The Karabiner 98k was used on all fronts in World War II, and still even sees service in third-world conflicts; some have been found in use by insurgents in the Iraq War.
The Springfield M1903A4 was a sniper rifle used by the American soldiers during World War II, modified from the earlier versions of the Springfield M1903 which were used as regular battle rifles. After the Spanish American war, the M1903 was designed and replaced the Krag rifle as the standard rifle of American forces and was used in World War I. The M1903 was developed after the U.S. needed a rifle that could use higher loads and compete with Mauser weapons. Springfield Armory began to create a rifle with some of the Mauser's and Krag's features and eventually the M1903 was designed, after an unsuccessful first attempt. It was replaced with the M1 Garand in 1936, but for World War II, it was modified to the M1903A4, the sniper rifle variant, and was used by almost all American snipers. Early in the Pacific War, the USMC still used Springfields, but that was at a time when the USMC was not given the top procurement, being seen as a lesser branch of the US Navy.
The MAS-36 was a French service rifle developed in 1936 to replace the 8mm Label M1886 rifles. The Fusil MAS Mle 1936 or "MAS 36" was used during World War II by the Vichy French forces in Africa and Italy, and the French underground or "Maquis", it proved to be a powerful, robust, and lethally accurate firearm all the way up to the 1970's, it achieved a legendary status by being used by the French Foreign Legion. It fired a 7.5mm round from a five round internal box magazine. One interesting feature is that the MAS 36 has a sleeve under the barrel in witch a bayonet is housed, in order to use the bayonet the firer must pull it out of the sleeve and screw it into the muzzle of the weapon This weapon is only in Call of Duty: Big Red One were it is very similar to the German K98 rifle.
The M1 Garand is a semi-automatic, gas-operated service rifle that was used by the United States during World War II, Korea, and to limited extent, Vietnam.
The M1A1 Carbine was a semi-automatic weapon developed in the 1930s and during WWII it was issued to paratroopers for its distinct foldable wire stock and non-combat personnel due to a need for a lightweight and small compliment to the larger and heavier M1 Garand. Marines and ordinary soldiers weren't issued the M1A1 Carbine with exceptions in the Pacific theatre where the M1, its fully automatic cousins the M2 and the night-vision scoped model the M3 were used heavily in the invasion of Okinawa. The M1 Carbine was used by the US from 1944 and onward. It also saw action with the US in Korea and the French in Indochina.
The M1 Carbine was also one of the two weapons that saw deployment in World War 2 that lead to the development of the modern Assault Rifle. The most popular infantry rifles in World War 2 (the SVT-40, Gewehr 43, Mauser Kar98k, Enfield rifle and the M1 Garand) were all large-caliber long-range weapons designed to deliver killing blows at ranges beyond 500 yards. The submachine gun was a natural compliment to such weapons, providing a very short range but a very high rate of fire. The M1 Carbine was developed to provide the same portability as the Thompson SMG with a lighter weight and longer range. The Germans saw a similar need and developed the Sturmgewehr Model 1944 (StG-44 or "Storm Rifle") late in the war, adding a much debated feature not present on the M1 Carbine, the ability to switch between semi and fully automatic.
Gewehr 43 (pronounced Guh-vier) was a semi-automatic rifle used by the German soldiers during World War II. The Gewehr 43 fires the powerful 7.92x57mm Mauser round from a 10-round detachable box magazine.
Known to American GIs as the "Schmeisser" or "burp gun", the MP-40 (MP designates Maschinenpistole 40, literally "Machine Pistol 1940") is a sub-machine gun developed in Nazi Germany and used extensively by paratroopers, platoon and squad leaders, and other troops during World War II. The MP-40 was characterized by its relatively low rate of fire and recoil.
The MAS 38 was a French Submachine gun developed in 1938. It fired a 7.65mm round which was similar to other submachine guns of the time. Since manufacturing only began a year before World War II, this weapon saw limited use in the war. It was however in French service until 1950. It was mainly used by the Germans in occupied France, and by the Vichy French during the war.
The Thompson submachine gun or the "Tommy Gun" was a sub-machine gun used by the Allies during World War II.
The Beretta Model 38 was the issued Italian submachine gun during World War II by the Italian military. It fired a 9mm Parabellum round from a 10 to 40 round magazine. The most distinctive feature of this weapon was its twin triggers, one for full automatic firing and the other for semi-automatic firing.A highly successful weapon, it underwent minor modifications during its life and remained in production until 1950 before being replaced by more modern weapons.
It was heavily used among Italian military special forces groups such as the paratroopers. After Italy seceded from the Axis cause, many German soldiers acquired this weapon for their own personal usage.
The Model 38 is only featured in Call of Duty 2: Big Red One in which it is a fairly reliable weapon. It is not to be confused with the similar German MP18 which shares the wooden stock and perforated barrel jacket of the 1938.
The Browning Automatic Rifle, or the "B.A.R.", was an American Support weapon used during World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
The Sturmgewehr 44 (pronounced Sturm-guh-VIER), better known as either the STG-44 or the MP44, was a German assault rifle developed during World War II. It is featured in Call of Duty, Call of Duty: United Offensive, Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 3, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and Call of Duty: World at War. The STG-44 is widely considered to be the world's first true assault rifle.
The M39 Chatellerault machine gun was used by France forces during the Second World War. This weapon is only used in Call of Duty 2: Big Red One. In real life, it was quite uncommon during the war, mostly because the German military didn't use French-made weapons, preferring the 7.92x57-using Eastern European weapons. However, they were issued to German occupation police.
The Beretta Model 30 was a Light Machine Gun used by the Italian army during World War II. The troops using it generally regarded it as a poor weapon because it tended to jam frequently, fired a weak 6.5mm round out of fragile clips and it had a slow rate of fire. The most interesting thing about this weapon is the way it is loaded the magazine was attached to the weapon and was supplemented with bullets via two 10 round brass stripper clips, causing confusion in battle. Another problem that plagued this weapon is that each round that is gets chambered in the bolt is sprayed with oil to prevent jamming; this often caused the rounds to misfire or to fire prematurely obviously a bad trait. The Beretta was shown in the game Call of Duty 2: The Big Red One for PS2 and Xbox
The M1919 Browning medium machine gun was an air cooled machine gun designed by John Browning. Intended as a supplement for the heavier, water cooled M1917, it served as a general purpose machine gun being used everywhere from aircraft to infantry. The M1919A4 was the most used variant. Later, the M1919A6 was introduced and was generally disliked. It often had the in-line stock cut off to reduce weight.
The MG34, or Machinengewehr 34, was a German machine gun fielded in 1934. Though the Treaty of Versailles specifically prohibited Germany from producing any kind of sustained-fire weapon, they circumvented this by funding its development in Switzerland. This development produced an aircraft machine gun, the Rheinmetall MG15, from which the MG 34 was born. Considered one of the finest machine gun designs in history, the MG34 saw service on all fronts of the war often found en masse with the MG42 as well.
The Rocket Launcher, M1A1 was a shoulder-mounted, man portable launcher designed and used by the USA, firing a 60MM rocket propelled projective with a shaped-charged warhead ignited by an electric trigger mechanism. The M1A1 earned a nickname from its likeness to a homemade instrument made by comedian Bob Burns; The Bazooka. It shares an Axis parallel in the Panzerschreck, which was based on captured M1A1 Rocket Launchers. It consisted of a simple steel tube with a wooden stock and wooden (later steel) sights. It was originally designed as an anti-fortification and anti-tank weapon. The weapon was typically manned by a two man crew of a gunner and a loader. The shaped-charges were loaded in from the rear of the weapon, which served as an exhaust tube for the gases produced by the rocket's ignition.
The Panzerschreck, German for "tank terror," was the popular name for the Raketenpanzerbüchse also known as the RPzB. It fired an 88MM Shaped-Charge Explosive propelled by a fin-stabilized rocket. The rocket itself was fired from a reusable shoulder-mounted tube and ignited by an electric trigger mechanism. The weapon was designed to be a mobile, portable anti-tank weapon for infantry use.
The Panzerfaust (German for "Armoured/Tank fist") was a portable, inexpensive and disposable Anti-Armour weapon used by the military of Nazi Germany and her allies during WW2. It was the first disposable anti-tank rocket-launcher.
